Get for instance the drooping taillights that seem additional befitting a Chinese automobile than 1 built in Germany, or the peculiar concave curves around the doorways that seems caught on as opposed to an integral part of the style. Otherwise it is rather fantastic seeking, although maybe far more something Infiniti would produce than Volkswagen.

2011 Volkswagen Eos

ADVERTISEMENTS
2011 Volkswagen Eos in motor show

2011 Volkswagen Eos is VW’s inexpensive alternative to the BMW 3-series convertible or the Lexus IS convertible. It’s possible that you’ve never heard of the Eos, VW’s midsize convertible. Ford Mustang? Mini Cooper? The 2011 Eos isn’t cheap; the base model starts at $32,940. If you can afford a more expensive car, try convertibles like the BMW 3-Series and the Lexus IS. The BMW 1-Series convertible also falls in this category, but it’s smaller and less expensive. The base price is $34,500.

Beyond the talented top, the Eos provides an enjoyable drive thanks in part to the standard turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine. The Mini Cooper?

The Volkswagen Eos is a front-wheel-drive, two-door hardtop convertible with seating for four. The Lux model adds daytime running lights, power-folding heated outside mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming rearview and driver's outside mirrors, burled walnut cabin accents, leather upholstery, power passenger seat, power front seat lumbar adjustments and an easy-entry function for rear passengers.

Options for the Komfort are few and include ground effects (lower body skirting), a rear lip spoiler and 18-inch wheels. All Volkswagen Eos models are powered by the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which makes 200 hp and 207 pound-feet of torque. Lux models are available with the dual-clutch automated manual only.

The fuel economy ratings for the 2011 Eos with the manual are 21 mpg city/31 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined.

Standard on all 2011 VW Eos models are antilock disc brakes, stability control and front seat side airbags.

In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash testing, the 2011 VW Eos earned the top rating of "Good" for both frontal-offset and side-impact tests.

The chief attraction of the Eos is its five-piece retractable hardtop.

The VW Eos is designed for those who want a relaxed touring convertible. Both transmissions are nicely executed, but we suspect the typical Eos buyer will be happier with the automated manual. As expected, the retractable hardtop provides coupelike isolation when the weather prevents top-down motoring.

Landing somewhere between the budget rent-a-car cruiser convertibles, like the Chrysler 200 and the Volkswagen New Beetle, and drop-top sports cars like the Mazda Miata or Audi TT, is the Volkswagen Eos.

The Eos is so often omitted because it's bland. All VW Eos convertibles come with the same engine: a 2.0-liter, 200-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder. If you're in the front seat, the 2011 VW Eos is a very comfortable place; the seating and driving position is just a little more laid-back than in Volkswagen's other cars, and the seats themselves feel a bit better-bolstered than in its lower-priced models like the Golf. The 2011 Volkswagen Eos comes in Komfort and Lux models, with some high-end options like a sport package, Dynaudio surround system, and hard-drive-based navigation with music storage all available on the Lux.

2011 Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid by Je Design

For the first time in 2011, the Volkswagen Touareg mid-size SUV will be offered with a hybrid engine. The gas-electric drive hybrid engine was developed jointly between Volkswagen and Porsche to save on production costs. Adapted versions of the engine will be used in the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid and the Audi Q7 SUV.

Volkswagen has long featured efficient diesel engine. 2011 will be its first year offering a hybrid engine option. Volkswagen's TDI engine is one of the most efficient engines on the road today, allowing buyers to affordably purchase a quality, highly fuel efficient diesel power car. The Volkswagen Jetta TDI gets nearly 40 miles per gallon in combined driving. The Touareg has been offered with a diesel engine for much of the model's life. For 2011, the Touareg will offer a 3.0-liter diesel V-6, with 225 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. The Touareg is also offered with a 3.6 liter V-6 gas engine, which has 280 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque.

The Touareg's hybrid engine will be mated to a 333-horsepower, 3.0 liter supercharged V6 engine, which is used in the Audi S4 sedan. In addition to a 47-horsepower electric motor, the Touareg hybrid will have a combined 380 horsepower. It will use an eight-speed transmission. The model is anticipated to get combined mileage of at least 29 miles per gallon. This engine will replace the Touareg's gas V-8 engine offering.

The vehicle features stop-start functionality, which turns the engine off when stopped instead of idling. Up to a speed of 31 miles per hour, the engine can run on electric power only. Once at road or freeway speeds, the V-6 will shut down and run on electric power only unless acceleration is needed. Once released, the 2011 Touareg should offer one of the best hybrid engines on the road.

SUCCESSFUL RESUSCITATION by CSR Automotive

After several years of hesitation, VW - not least because of pressure from the customers - has won through to reanimation of its warm Mediterranean wind Scirocco. Good news, because many professional tuners have in the meantime put into action their version of a still further perfected Scirocco. Thus, the company CSR Automotive from Nurnberg is in a good company, but it presents a stunning version of the Mediterranean wind that has no parallels.

Originally from the 2009, Scirocco III was equipped with a turbocharged engine with an in-house body kit consisting of a single-frame front grille, side skirts and a rear apron from the O-Line-Design, the upper and lower rear wings, "bad-look" headlight trims and a stainless steel rear silencer with suitable outlets.

The obvious effect is also provided by a partial foil design in carbon-look.

The alpha and omega of any redevelopment continues to be a successful tire / wheel combination that can never be spectacular enough. And now - once again - Schmidt Revolution (www.FELGE.de) from Bad Segeberg comes into play. Thanks to its rims Cirrus with carbon-look parts (wheel assembly costs 3400 euro) in the dimensions of 8.5x20" with 235/30 ZR20 tires from Toyo at the front or 10.5x20" with 285/25 ZR20 - at the rear axles, Schmidt comes near to the ideal of "perfect footwear" for the Scirocco.

There is only the pious hope to sit in the sports chair and go on. That is quite feasible ...

Golf GTI adidas: Customised Golf GTI launches in June

Golf GTI Excessive: Concept adds precise motorsport look for series production

Flashback: Golf GTI 1 and Golf Citi Mk1 as tributes to their origins

Wolfsburg/Reifnitz, May 2010. There are automobiles, and then there are automotive icons – classics with a glorious past and an exciting future.

The Golf GTI is such an icon. Over 1.7 million have been sold since the car’s debut in 1976. In just the sixth year after the launch of the Golf GTI, its community of fans had grown so large that it sought a common platform, or to put it simply an event, to talk shop, showcase and drive the GTI. That is how the GTI-Meet in Reifnitz at Wörthersee came into being in 1982. Since then, fans have been meeting in the Austrian state of Kärnten for five days of Mardi Gras in May. It is already time to meet again. One of the traditional highlights: unveiling of the new GTI variations. Debuting as world premieres this year are the Golf GTI

adidas – an exclusive model whose sales will launch in June – and the Golf GTI Excessive, a concept car implemented in a stylistically refined motorsport look.

The new Golf GTI adidas and the GTI concept car will be accompanied by two GTI classics: the first generation Golf GTI (1976) and the Golf Citi Mk1 − a last edition, limited to 1,000 units, of the first generation Golf whose production has just been phased out in South Africa. Volkswagen Classic is bringing these two icons to Wörthersee. Its motto: GTI history

meets GTI present and future.

Golf GTI adidas: Starting in June, three of the world’s most recognised German badges – Volkswagen, GTI and adidas – will for the first time meld into a combined product as the Golf GTI adidas. The essential fact is that the GTI’s technology and styling − and its interior customised in the style of the adidas brand − all produce a real dynamic mix. And so the Golf GTI adidas is likely to attain collector’s status very quickly, given the histories of today’s classic cars in the mould of the two Golf Pirelli GTIs (1983 and 2007) and the Golf GTI Edition 30 (2006).

Like each of these icons, the new Golf GTI adidas will also launch with wide-ranging customised exterior and interior features. They include newly designed 18-inch “Serron” alloy wheels and a specially developed sport seat design. As on the Golf R, bi-xenon headlights and LED rear lights are aboard as standard equipment.

Golf GTI Excessive: Every year at the GTI-Meet at Wörthersee, Volkswagen surprises fans with breathtaking concept cars. In 2007, it was the GTI W12-650, in 2008 the Golf Estate RaVe 270 and in 2009 the Golf GTI Wörthersee 09. In 2010, Volkswagen is presenting the Golf GTI Excessive in Reifnitz. This concept car illustrates the great design potential of the Golf GTI.

Key components here are the add-on parts styled in high-gloss black piano paint. The focus here is on extreme precision in the definition of shapes, radii and straight lines, as though cut with a razor blade. The add-on parts themselves are slender and light on the one hand, yet

noticeably stable as well; they appear as though carved from a single block. Add-ons around the front spoiler, side sills and rear diffuser (which lights fire-red when braking!) are visually styled as so-called splitters; they are aerodynamically optimised air diverting elements that originate from motorsports. Never before have splitters been transferred to a production model with such high-end precision as on the Golf GTI Excessive. Will these add-ons make it into the catalogue of Volkswagen Original Accessories? That is up to the fans!

ADVERTISEMENTS
2011 Volkswagen Polo Saloon in golden colour

While advance sales began for the Volkswagen Polo Saloon produced in Kaluga, Russia, the world premiere took place before 200 high-ranking guests in Moscow. For the first time in the history of the brand, a vehicle has been developed specially for the Russian market, bearing in mind its specific climate and street conditions.

Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Brand with responsibility for Development, says: "The new Volkswagen Polo Saloon does not only fulfil the highest standards of modern automotive engineering. The efficient technologies, outstanding active and passive safety and the traditional high quality of workmanship and materials are groundbreaking for this class. In conjunction with the timeless design, a level has been reached that is unprecedented in this segment and this market."

Frank Wittemann, Head of the Volkswagen Brand in Russia: "The new Saloon extends Volkswagen's range of vehicles und builds a bridge from our bestsellers in Russia, the Passat and the Jetta, to the small familiy car segment. With it, an even greater number of friends of our brand can choose a vehicle according to their taste and possibilities. The new vehicle complies with the global quality standards of Volkswagen in every respect, while being very attractive in terms of price: The Volkswagen Polo Saloon is being offered at a price from just a bit over 10,000 euros and up."

The new Saloon is being built on a completely new assembly line at Volkswagen AG's plant in Kaluga. The Volkswagen Polo Saloon is equipped with a new 1.6-litre Otto engine (77 kW / 105 PS). It can be combined with a 5-gear manual gearbox or a 6-gear automatic gearbox with sequential shift function (Tiptronic). Hence Volkswagen is the first automobile manufacturer offering their Russian customers such an up-to-date automatic gearbox in this vehicle class.

A high level of safety is ensured already in the Trendline basic version—two airbags, head rests and three-point seat belts for all five passengers. From Comfortline and up, the VW Polo Saloon is equipped with ABS as standard. In the Highline top version, additional safety systems are integrated that are normally unavailable in this class—for instance: side air-bags and ESP.

The specific demands of Russian drivers and the climate and street conditions in Russia have both been carefully taken into account during the new Saloon's development: long-term tests were conducted in different climate zones, and the street conditions in the most variegated regions in Russia were examined. The available petrol qualities were tested repeatedly as well. Thus the vehicle has been equipped with an up-to-date and reliable engine that is ideally suited to those operating conditions prevailing in Russia, a galvanised, non-corrosive body and a wheel suspension geared to bad roads. Particularly robust paints were used for the car's paint job, and the chrome parts are also highly resistant to aggressive agents.

The standard spec has also been increased. Alongside the climate control; leather steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake, and 17-inch alloys, all CCs now come with sat-nav and Bluetooth.

GT models also benefit from a Nappa leather interior, front and rear parking sensors and cruise control, and retain 18-inch alloys, Adaptive Chassis Control and tinted glass.

The car is available to order now with the entry-level car starting at £22,520 - a £515 rise over the outgoing car. However, VW is keen to point out that the extra standard kit is worth £1,000. The GT model now starts at £25,160, a rise of £1,000, yet the extra equipment value is £3,000.

The existing line-up of 1.8-litre TSI, 2.0-litre TSI and 3.6-litre V6 petrol engines and 2.0-litre TDI diesel engines remains, as does the choice of six-speed manual or DSG gearboxes.

Meanwhile, at the rear the revisions will be harder to spot with only a slight re-design due for the tail-lights.

Engines will mostly mimic the current lineup and should include the turbo- and supercharged 1.4-litre TSI engine, as well as 1.6 and 2.0 TDI variants. All engines can be mated to a traditional six-speed manual gearbox or, as an option, to Volkswagen's semi-automatic DSG gearbox.

2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid Concept

ADVERTISEMENTS
2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid Concept
The latest Volkswagen will unveil the 3rd and latest iteration by its roadster diesel-electric hybrid concept serial, the fresh XL1 Super effective Vehicle (SEV) at these week’s Qatar Motor demo, which runs by January 26 to 29. The latest 2011 Volkswagen XL1 Hybrid Concept are motivated by a diminished 800 cc TDI two-cylinder basic rail diesel engine breaking 48 HP.
Vision becomes reality – Volkswagen’s “Formula XL1”Volkswagen XL1 prototype consumes just 0.9 l/100 km! Wolfsburg / Doha, 25 January 2011 - Future mobility is one of the most stimulating topics of our time. The key question here: Just how much could the energy consumption of cars be reduced if all the stops were pulled out for efficiency? There is now an answer to this question, and Volkswagen is delivering it in the form of the new XL1. Combined fuel consumption: 0.9 l/100 km. No other hybrid car powered by an electric motor / internal combustion engine combination is more fuel efficient.
2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid Concept
Volkswagen will build small run of XL1 plug-in hybrid in two years. “We want to go into series production with this car starting in 2013,” Volkswagen chairman Ferdinand Piech told Automotive News Europe on Tuesday at an event in Doha, Qatar, ahead of the 2011 Qatar auto show where Volkswagen unveiled an XL1 prototype. Pioneering construction techniques, an advanced plug-in hybrid drivetrain and innovative packaging all play a part in allowing the new Volkswagen XL1 Super Efficient Vehicle (SEV) to return 260 mpg on the combined cycle to set a new benchmark for vehicle efficiency.
The most efficient car in the world. The new 2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid Concept shows the way forward for extreme economy vehicles and clean technologies. It also demonstrates that such cars can also be fun.  The feeling when driving the XL1 is truly dynamic - not based on pure power, rather on its pure efficiency. Two examples: 1) To travel at a constant speed of 100 km/h, the prototype only needs 6.2 kW/8.4 PS – a fraction of the performance of today’s cars (Golf 1.6 TDI with 77 kW and 7-speed DSG: 13.2 kW/17.9 PS). 2) In electric mode, the XL1 needs less than 0.1 kWh (82 Wh/km) to complete a one kilometre driving course. These are record values.
Powering the 2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid Concept is a compact 800 cc TDI two-cylinder common rail diesel engine developing 47 hp. It's linked to an electric motor producing 27 hp, resulting in a total of 74 hp - a modest output yet more than enough when the low kerb weight of 1753 lbs (795 kg) of the vehicle is taken into account. Two-cylinder TDI uses mass production technology: The 0.8 litre TDI (35 kW/48 PS) was derived from the 1.6 litre TDI, which drives such cars as the Golf and Passat. The 0.8 TDI exhibits the same data as the 1.6-litre TDI common rail engine in terms of cylinder spacing (88 mm), cylinder bore (79.5 mm) and stroke (80.5 mm).
2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid Concept
In addition, the Volkswagen XL1 Concept's two-cylinder and the mass produced four cylinder share key internal engine features for reducing emissions. They include special piston recesses for multiple injection and individual orientation of the individual injection jets. The excellent, smooth running properties of the common rail engines were transferred to the two cylinder engine. within addition, a balancer shaft that is driven by the crankshaft turning at the same speed optimises smooth engine running.
When the full power of the hybrid system is engaged, the Volkswagen prototype accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 11.9 seconds; its top speed is 160 km/h (electronically limited). Yet these numbers alone do not tell the whole story: Since the XL1 weighs just 795 kg, the drive system has an easy job of propelling the car. When full power is needed, the electric motor, which can deliver 100 Newton metres of torque from a standstill, works as a booster to support the TDI engine (120 Newton metres torque). Together, the TDI and E-motor deliver a maximum torque of 140 Newton metres in boosting mode.
2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid Concept
Carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) the ideal material for the body of the new 2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid Concept because of its light weight. The 2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid Conceptweighs only 795 kg. Of this figure, 227 kg represents the entire drive unit, 153 kg the running gear, 80 kg the equipment (including the two bucket seats) and 105 kg the electrical system.
That leaves 230 kg, which is precisely the weight of the body - produced largely of CFRP - including wing doors, front windscreen in thin-glass technology as in motorsport and the highly safe monocoque. A total of 21.3 percent of the new Volkswagen XL1, or 169 kg, consists of CFRP. In addition, Volkswagen uses lightweight metals for 22.5 percent of all parts (179 kg). Only 23.2 percent (184 kg) of the new XL1 is constructed from steel and iron materials. The rest of its weight is distributed among various other polymers (e.g. polycarbonate side windows), metals, natural fibres, process materials and electronics.
2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid Concept
Design for a new era: The VW XL1 is 3,888 mm long, 1,665 mm wide and just 1,156 mm tall. These are extreme dimensions. The Polo has a similar length (3,970 mm) and width (1,682 m), but it is significantly taller (1,462 mm). The height of the new 2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid Concept is about the same as that of a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder (1,184 mm). So, it is easy to visualise just how spectacular such a Volkswagen would appear on the road – as long and wide as a Polo, but with a low profile like a Lamborghini.
The styling of the 2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid Concept is borne out of functional requirements - easy access to the interior is granted via a pair of elegant scissor doors that hinge on the A-pillar while the profile of the car has been honed in the wind tunnel, the result being a remarkable coefficient of drag figure of 0.186. The XL1's overall length and width are similar to those of a Volkswagen Polo yet its height is more akin to that of a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder.
Although the 2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid is still very much a concept, its unveiling marks the next step towards the birth of a new class of Super Efficient Vehicles, while the advent of a process such as RTM is a significant milestone.
