ADVERTISEMENTS
2012 Mitsubishi Sport Cars Eclipse SE
The Japanese manufacturer has announced a final special edition for the Mitsubishi Eclipse Coupe and Spyder models to mark the occasion. The Mitsubishi Eclipse, currently available in both Coupe and Spyder bodystyles, has enjoyed a vivid history but its run will soon be coming to an end.
2012 Mitsubishi Sport Cars Eclipse SE
During its lifetime the Eclipse was sold through Chrysler’s defunct Eagle and Plymouth brands and even played a starring role in the first Fast and the Furious movie, but low demand and Mitsubishi’s shifting production plans for its plants in the U.S. mean the car is being dropped. The SE Special Edition is the manufacturer’s way of saying goodbye to a model series produced since 1989.
Here are about a 2012 Mitsubishi Sport Cars Eclipse SE is the new special edition car introduced Mitsubishi Motors Company. The 2012 Mitsubishi Sport Cars Eclipse SE engine range has two engines – a 2.4 liter four-cylinder with 164PS (121 kW) and 219Nm (162 lb-ft) and a powerful 3.8 liter V6 developing 269PS (198 kW) and 355Nm (262 lb-ft) of torque.

The smaller engine comes with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic available as an option and the bigger V6 comes with a 5-speed automatic gearbox. 2012 Mitsubishi Sport Cars Eclipse SE promises powerful performance with these powertrains.

From its early days as a sleekly-styled, turbocharged-4-cylinder boy racer model, right up through to its current design as a sophisticated yet distinctive-looking two-door with available V-6 power, the 2012 Mitsubishi Sport Cars Eclipse SE has long been tailor-made for the true driving enthusiast. But after a long and successful run as the Japanese auto manufacturer's signature luxury performance sports coupe in North America, the always fun-to-drive 2012 Mitsubishi Sport Cars Eclipse SE will cease production after the upcoming 2012 model year.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo XI Goes Hybrid

ADVERTISEMENTS
0

You may have heard rumors the next generation Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution will be an electric car. Well, they're true. But before you start writing angry rants in the comments box, read on. According to one source inside Mitsubishi, the Evolution XI, due in 2013, will be the best Evo yet.

To be built off the same platform as the chunky PX-MiEV plug-in hybrid off-roader concept Mitsubishi revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show last October, the Evolution XI will benefit from the company's latest electric/hybrid technology. The new Evo's 2.0 litre MIVEC petrol engine, borrowed from the current Japan-spec Galant, will be mated to a new plug-in hybrid system with lithium-ion batteries. But here's the twist: the Evo's main power source will not be the gas engine, but an electric motor that will drive the front wheels. The 2.0 litre engine, when needed, will drive the rear wheels.

The Evo XI will give drivers the option of driving in EV mode, though only for short distances, improving fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions. But it won't be a namby-pamby eco-warrior. According to our source, the electric motor will be an upgraded version of the 63 hp permanent magnet synchronous motor used in the i-MiEV, and the 2.0 litre MIVEC gas engine is expected to generate around 320 hp. Depending on how Mitsubishi manages the power flow between the two, the Evo XI could effectively have up to 350 hp on tap. The current Evo makes do with a mere 291 hp.

Our insider suggests Mitsubishi engineers are working toward a target 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds. "The new electric motor will effectively work like a turbo, only smoother," he says, "so there's no need to worry about power delivery."

What hardcore drivers will be more concerned about are the handling upgrades, which include a couple of hi-tech handling gizmos that were not finished in time for the Evo X, launched two-and-a-half years ago -- Active Steering and Roll Control Suspension. The Evo XI will also feature a new electronically-controlled active yaw control system (E-AYC) that regulates torque distribution between the rear wheels.

We tested an Evo prototype fitted with Active Steering and Roll Control Suspension way back in February 2006 and were impressed. But Mitsubishi Motor's recall problems, restructuring, and a decision to focus development resources on fuel efficient engines and cleaner CO2 emissions, led to these key pieces of Evo techno-wizardry being put on the backburner. We can still recall an engineer sighing at the Evo X's reveal in 2007 as he whispered: "This is not the finished product, you know."

Our sketches give one artist's impression of how the new Evo XI might look. Whatever the final design, this much is clear: Mitsubishi is determined to totally re-invent one of the world's great performance cars.

Mitsubishi sells 100,000 i-MiEVs to a single buyer?

ADVERTISEMENTS

Yes, that’s true, and the buyer in question is PSA Peugeot Citroën. Mitsubishi has announced the signing of a “Final Cooperative Agreement” that will see the French giant purchase 100,000 units of the i-MiEV electric car. PSA will market the rebadged i-MiEV as the Peugeot iOn and Citroen C-Zero. Both French badged cars will go on sale in Europe by the end of this year, starting with their domestic market.

This sealed deal comes just after both parties failed to agree terms for a capital alliance in the style of Renault and Nissan. Mitsubishi Motors CEO Osamu Masuko and PSA chief Philippe Varin met at Geneva and jointly released a statement that a capital tie-up would not be realistic although both companies would continue to expand business ties.

Besides this latest deal, which would help Mitsubishi achieve better economies of scale for an expensive project, PSA also bases its Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser on the Japanese maker’s Outlander SUV.

Top Luxury Cars - The Mitsubishi Lancer GS3

ADVERTISEMENTS
Mitsubishi Lancer GS3 1.8 not only brings out a gear in sporty driving dynamics but also many additional convenience and comfort features.

All the following features come as standard over the GS2. And there's still e 6-speed CVT automatic on petrol models available which will cost additional money.
Key features at a glance (compared to GS2):

*18" Alloy Wheels
*140 PS turbo-diesel engine
*Sports Suspension
*Climate Controlled Air Conditioning
*Cruise Control
*Front Strut Tower Bar
*Privacy Glass
*6-speed gearbox
*Stability & Traction Control
*Front Fog Lamps

To mention more, the sculpted dashboard and clear instruments look very good and there's also lots of space in the car for both passenger and stuff. It drives well enough, accurate and planted.

The 1.8 litre engine comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox, despite that the motor's 141BHP gives very decent performance - 9.8sec to reach 62mph will be more than rapid for the Lancer's likely conservative clientele.

Because Mitsubishi Lancer GS3 1.8 takes less than 10 seconds to break 62mph. Apart from the newly added bigger alloy wheel, climate control, a bodykit, privacy glass as well as sportier, beefed-up suspension, GS3 includes all the kit from GS2.

It has no unruly behavior if you try the same with the ESP turned off-the cornering line tightens up nicely in response to a lifted throttle. Grip levels are very nice.

Other than it's image as a well-behaved, grown-up chassis, but it's not as lively to drive as the Ford Focus, and refinement over poor road surfaces is also noticeably bad.

The extra kit is certainly very attractive, but what it all does it to push prices up to a probably unattractive level. Just avoid the CVT transmission: it dents performance, fuel economy in addition to refinement.

All in all, Mitsubishi Lancer GS3 1.8 is the cheapest Lancer Sportback with standard climate control and curtain airbags. Both are hugely very welcome in something that could well be in a family car, and that makes this one of favorite versions of Mitsubishi Lancer Evo .

Top Luxury Cars - The New Mitsubishi Colt

ADVERTISEMENTS
There's something about the new Mitsubishi Colt that I can't quite put my finger on. It might be the baffling amount of interior space that seems to imply a tryst with the tardis, or perhaps it's the stunningly good looks of a car that is versatile enough to squeeze into even the most meager space. The handling is crisp and delightful even on longer journeys, and there's enough poke to get you from A to B with the minimum of fuss.

In fact, the only thing wrong with the Colt is the name. This isn't a colt, it's a miniature stallion. The new model is an advanced version of its predecessors, with more than enough individual features to set it apart as a new breed of Mitsubishi brilliance.

I bought a new Mitsubishi Colt on a whim, and whilst I probably shouldn't confess to that kind of spontaneity, I've never been one to dither over a purchase by weighing up every single factor before finding out that it's too late. I saw a Ralliart model that knocked my socks off, and after a few days of deliberation I decided to take the plunge and go for a test drive (I'm that sensible at least). It was an instant infatuation, and as I don't have to worry about accommodating a family it was the perfect choice for my personal situation.

I part exchanged my old super-mini, and the already attractive price was made even better by handing over the keys to my old car. Whilst it may not be ideal for everyone, the new Mitsubishi Colt really may well be the most super super-mini that I've driven to date. Whether I'm shopping, commuting to work or visiting far-flung friends, the Colt is an eager thoroughbred that never fails to deliver.

If you're looking for a new super-mini I highly recommend the Mitsubishi Colt, and you won't even need to check its teeth.
L Riley fell in love with the new Mitsubishi Colt, and is going to need a bigger garage at this rate.

All New Design Mitsubishi GT Prototype Sport SUV

ADVERTISEMENTS

Mitsubishi GT Prototype Sport SUV
Mitsubishi recently announced at the New York International Auto Show the Outlander GT Prototype, an all-new design intended to improve upon the performance and technology found in the current Outlander. And while Mitsubishi refers to the Outlander GT Prototype as a “design study,” the automaker also states that the vehicle “infuses performance and design inspiration from Mitsubishi’s Lancer sport sedans and provides clear indicators of the future of Outlander.” That makes it a pretty sure bet the Outlander GT will see production for the 2010 model year.
According to a Mitsubishi executive, the Outlander GT Prototype is “packed with technology, performance and premium features that are uncommon in the compact SUV class.” Borrowing both design and technical inspiration from other current Mitsubishi models, the Outlander GT Prototype features an enhanced V-6 engine, upgraded shifting program, a technologically advanced all-wheel-drive system, a sport-tuned suspension with upgraded wheels and brakes, and several advanced in-vehicle technologies.

Mitsubishi GT Prototype Sport SUV
The prototype is packed with a host of new technologies, such as Idle Neutral Logic, which automatically shifts the transmission into neutral during vehicle standstill. Other highlights include improved performance and fuel economy from its more powerful 3.0-liter SOHC MIVEC V6 engine, and a Super-All-Wheel-Control System offering improved handling and control.
Despite the updates up front, it doesn’t look like the Outlander’s hind-quarter received any attention from Mitsubishi’s design department.
The Diamond white Outlander GT Prototype infuses performance and design inspiration from Mitsubishi's Lancer sport sedans and provides clear indicators of the future of Outlander.
A front grille design inspired by the Lancer Evolution's "jet fighter" look is clearly in play on the Outlander GT Prototype, which sports complementary new design elements, such as a reshaped front bumper, side mirrors, fenders and hood. Reshaped Bi-Xenon HID headlamps, a new rear bumper and side sills, plus a bold polished finish on the already standard aluminum roof panel accentuate the sporty appeal. It reengages at the slightest lift of the foot off the brake pedal, thereby providing instantaneous response.
The aluminum roof gets a polished finished for the show car, but don't expect to see anything like it on a production version.
